Job Jumping

Life has been a crazy series of ups and downs lately. I mentioned before that Jim had gotten laid off from his position in Acquisitions back at the end of January, but then got switched over to Sales in the same company. The only difference with the new job was the pay... there was none. :) Okay, well there was, but it was 100% commission. Jim worked for over a month, and although he made two sales, by the time everything was said and done (including one sale cancelling, the other being a split commission with another sales consultant, paying the company for our 1/2 of the insurance premium, etc.) we essentially made nothing. This did not sit well with Jim. So he started looking for other work opportunities and finally put in his notice with his brother. He found another job within the week installing cable for a subcontractor of Comcast. He started that job and worked for a week and a half (at about 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, making $8.50/hr (during training anyway)... not my favorite job already!), but by the middle of the second week, he got a phone call from a member of our ward who works at NASA and told him he had a job offer for him. The hours are a lot better, the pay is A LOT better, enough said. Two days later and Jim is now an employee of the Johnson's Space Center. He does roof inspections of the buildings. It's only a Part Time/Temporary job (it lasts about 60 days), although there's a good chance they may offer him a different position at the end of that time. But either way it's okay because in the midst of all this we've been working on getting Jim certified to be a Spanish teacher/Coach so he can get a job in the school districts. So we're looking for job opportunities there as well. Jim's met with the Athletic Director of Friendswood who said they would LOVE to have him if they have a position that opens up, but that's always the tricky part... finding the right position to open up. So anyway! That's been us for the last month or so. :)

Hey Debbie! You need to tell Jim to apply in Pearland as well. If he has a resume...I can pass it to a few of our head coaches and put in a good word for him. I think he would be a great addition to any school!!!

I'm crossing my fingers for you that some guy who has the perfect teaching/coaching job decides he needs to move to Barbados, thereby opening the spot up for Jim. Hey, it could happen right? And I'm getting excited. Mom and I are talking about getting our tickets for July:) Yay!!!

Debs-- that is a lot of change and uncertainty..but you seem to be weathering it really well. And you guys were certainly more prepared for it than most of would have been...I know I just cleaned out my savings between trying to have a baby and selling our home=)
We leave the end of May for CA and Joe's wedding...I am trying to see if I have a weekend I can come visit before we leave...whatcha think???

Tough stuff! I know where you are coming from. Ben has been cut to 3 day work weeks, so we are a bit unsettled as well. We are hanging in the balance hoping the 3 days don't fall out from under him. Hope all stays well, and I know that we're all well taken care of.

Jim...we are so proud of you!...your hard work and efforts in providing for your family, and for putting the Lord before sales! "...them that honour me I will honour..." (1 Sam 2:30). And with God on your side doors will open. Love you!
