Fun With Mom

I had the LUCKY pleasure of having my mom come out to stay with me this past week. What a treat that was! It never seems to matter how old you get, there's just something comforting about having Mom with you. The bummer part was that the week seemed to just FLY right by! And poor Mom... we really put her to work! It was more like a week of slave labor for her. (Sorry Mom!!) The biggest (and pretty much only) thing we did was to paint the former guest room so that it is now ready for Dixie to move into and become her cute little girl room. It is sooo cute! But of course there had to be drama involved in the whole ordeal (after all... this is ME we're talking about). It all started when I had Jim paint the room white the week before so that it would be ready for Mom to do the rest when she got here (note: I'm not allowed to paint since I'm 6 months pregnant... otherwise I definitely would have done this all on my own and not tortured those I love  with the pain!!). Well, this would have worked out great, except that after Mom had already painted the top half of the room, we realized that the "white" is not actually "white" when you put another color up against it. Our "white" was now gray. I'm not kidding. There was absolutely nothing white about it! Now, this also would not have been a problem if we were simply painting over the "white"... but we had spent hours taping off sections of the walls that were to remain as white stripes, and now we discovered that we were actually going to have gray stripes. It was truly a moment of pain and anguish. ...and I of course shed some tears. My options were to live with gray stripes or to start completely over and paint the room REAL white (Ultra Pure White) for the base and start the process again. Um... well, yeah... gray stripes just weren't going to cut it, so it was back to the drawing board. The real tragedy was that it meant we had wasted a lot of the short precious time that my mom was here for. Major UGH! Anyway, the Ultra Pure White paint went up, the endless taping resumed, and finally, the finished paint colors were donned. And after all was said and done, we had a room fit for a princess. Dixie's going to love it. :) We're going to move her crib in there soon so she can start getting used to sleeping in the room, and then we'll transition her over to her little toddler bed before the baby gets here (so the baby can have the crib).
Anyway, I don't have the camera to take a picture of the room... so you get a quick little video of it instead. :)

Other fun things we did...
We went to the pumpkin patch (as evident in the pictures, Dixie is becoming more and more of a daddy's girl... just notice who she'll sit calmly for!) :)

And we also went to a fun little fall festival thing called "Clinefest" (it was at Cline Elementary School... hence the name). Dixie got to throw bean bags through a  ghost and pumpkins mouths, jump on those big bouncy contraptions for kids, do a cake walk, and dig for treasure. Jim was at a scout campout that day, so he missed the fun. But we sure had a lot of fun with Grandma!!
We sure loved having Mom/Grandma here. Dixie was able to do some good bonding that she usually doesn't get to do when all the other grandkids are vying for Grandma's attention, so this was a super special treat. Thanks to Dad for letting us borrow her for the week. We love you guys SOOO much!
