Halloween Happenings

Well we have been havin' a Halloween BLAST this month. :) The girls are SO excited for Halloween and have been since Day 1 of October. (Holy moly does that make for a long month!) :) We finally had to make a chain link countdown so that they would stop asking me every half hour 'how much longer is it to Halloween?' :) We had fun decorating the house and even the front yard a little, and then we've also been having fun with some Halloween festivities. Here's what the girls have been up to so far...

PreSchool Halloween Party

Last week was Dixie's Joy School Halloween party (and of course Summer got to participate as well). Both girls decided they wanted to be 'Word Girl' for Halloween (Dixie, because she likes the show, and Summer because she likes to be Dixie's shadow). :) So I put together their little costumes. (Note that Word Girl actually has a yellow cape, but seeing as both girls already have capes... and Summer's is even yellow, I didn't really feel the need to go make two more. Yup... lazy mommy.) :)

Anyway, the party was fun... sort of. We were in the middle of an INSANE mosquito invasion in Houston at the time (we're talking worse than I have ever seen it in my entire life type of insane!!) and somehow we did not take that into account when we decided to have the party at an outdoor park. (Hello!) So from the moment we stepped out of our car (and technically even before that, since they attack you even IN your car), we were harassed by blood sucking little tormentors. (Kind of appropriate, though, for Halloween, right?!) :)
So anyway, we had planned to be there for about two hours, playing games, having a pizza lunch, and letting the kids play on the playground... Ya. It turned into about a 30-45 minute stay with rushing through the games, eating a quick snack and a cupcake, and then making a mad dash back for the cars. Skip the pizza, skip the play time. Run for your lives! :)
But the kids still seemed to have a good time regardless, and that's what counts, right? :)

Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats

We spent one evening making some yummy pumpkin rice krispie treats for dessert. The girls had fun stirring the pot and adding the food coloring to see the marshmallows turn orange... and then the best part of all... dipping their fingers in butter and smooshing the rice krispies into some semblance of a ball/pumpkin. :)
Dixie did pretty good at getting the 'round' concept down. Summer mostly just liked to smoosh. :)
Then we added some green sour licorice belt strips to make the tops and vines. Again, Dixie managed to get some strips on, and Summer's managed to stay on for all of a few seconds before being eaten. :) But it was a fun and tasty little activity (note the evidence on Summer's face). :)

Ta-Da!

Pumpkin Carving

And we finally got around to some pumpkin carving last night! Yahoo! :) As I said before, the mosquitos have been so insanely bad that going to a "real" pumpkin patch and spending the day outside was basically out of the question this year (although thankfully the cities have finally started dealing with the mosquito issue and the past few days have been good). But still... it kind of put a damper on the whole pumpkin carving mood. *sad*.
But yesterday we finally got around to the traditional fun. We stopped by our favorite HEB grocery store that has a cute little "pumpkin patch" display out in front and the girls each got to pick a pumpkin (with a little prompting from mommy as to what would make a good carving pumpkin). :)
Then when Daddy got home, we searched the internet to see what 'faces' the girls wanted to put on their pumpkins. Dixie spotted a Mickey Mouse and chose that one, and then Summer saw Tinkerbell and wanted to do that one. So we ended up going Disney themed. :) (I thought it was quite appropriate seeing as they're going to get to go to Disneyland for the first time this Christmas! Woohoo!!) :)
So we carved and gutted and carved some more...

Until finally, we ended up with...

Mickey and Tink in the house! :)

And two happy little customers to boot :)
Say "CANDY!" :)

Well that about wraps up our festivities so far. :) Hope y'all are enjoying your Halloween fun as well! Lotsa Loves and Happy Halloween!

Nice job guys!!! Those look amazing! Ours not so much this year since it was all up to Steve 'cause we waited 'til Halloween and Skylar busted open a liter of root beer that got everywhere while I was trying to make chili. Ah, the madness before getting out the door to trick-or-treat :).
