My One Month Old

Austin turned one month old this past week. Wow. He's actually 5 WEEKS old today! Where has my newborn gone??! He is getting so big!

Well, Little Man, here's a little bit of what's going on at this point in your life (which we like to call the 'blob' phase of life... but we say that with the utmost adoration and affection!) :)
You still mostly just sleep, eat, poop, sleep, eat, and poop so more. But more and more we are being graced with your attentiveness. You've started looking around at the things going on around you and I think you're starting to comprehend that there is life beyond the 6 inches around your face. :) Your sisters love it when they think you're looking at them... and even more when they think you're smiling at them. You do have an absolutely precious smile, although I'm pretty sure it still just means you're gassy and not that you're paying us any special attention. :)
The first three weeks of your life, you did fabulous at sleeping at night. I'm realizing now that this was because you pretty much just slept ALL the time. Night time started to become more of your fussy time at around the three week mark, and definitely picked up around four weeks... much to Mommy's dismay. :( However, this past week you've started settling back down a little and are doing better in general in the evenings. Although there are still some nights that throw Mommy and Daddy for a loop and we get very little sleep at all. We're working on that, though. :)

You're a very good little eater. You've been my easiest to nurse so far and I actually don't feel so annoyed by breastfeeding this time around. I feel like it's something I can handle and I'm not counting down the days until I can turn you over to the bottle (something I was definitely looking forward to with your two older sisters). You generally go about 3 hours from feeding time to feeding time, but some days you'll cut that down to 2 1/2 or even 2 hours. Those are not my favorite days, but I'm guessing those are when you're having a growth spurt and we manage just fine. At night we can sometimes go for 4 hours between feedings, but that's the longest I've gotten out of you so far. I'm definitely anxious for you to be able to go longer between eating times at night! All in good time, right? :)
Your hair is still strawberry blonde (I still think it will lighten to a blonde) and your eyes are a beautiful clear deep blue. My guess is you will be our handsome blue-eyed boy since there's no sign of them changing to brown like your sisters' did.
You like to be held. You like to be rocked. And you've definitely learned the art of 'if I cry, they will come'. :) Your once tiny squeak of a cry has grown into a much more powerful yelp... especially if you're hungry. Or if you have an upset tummy. Or if you just want to be held. :)
I'm pretty sure your big sister, Dixie, thinks she is your other mommy. She loves to hold you, and you're actually big enough now that I will let her walk around with you. She loves to take care of you and waits on you hand and foot. Sometimes Mommy and Dixie argue over whose turn it is to hold you... since we both can't get enough snuggle time with our little sweetheart. ;)

Sweet Little Man, you've been a part of our family for only a month, but it already seems like you've been a part of our lives forever. We absolutely love and adore you. We are so very grateful you decided to come be a part of our family and look forward to all the fun adventures ahead.
All My Love, Mommy
