Land Sakes Alive! Dixie is FIVE!

Hear ye! Hear ye! We've got a FIVE year old in the house!
And we celebrated Dixie's birthday by shutting off our power and partying in the dark! :) Okay, so maybe we didn't intentionally shut off the power... but we ended up having a rather large power outage in our area that had our power out for over two hours in the evening time. So the evening fun actually started off in the dark.
{The flash did a good job of lighting up the room for the picture, but note the oil lamp on the fireplace. :) }

Fortunately for us, the power decided to cooperate and come back on quickly after presents began, so we finished the night with electricity. But it sure made for an interesting affair. Thankfully, we were not trying to have a party at the time or anything. It was just our family. (The party comes later.) :)

Anyway... yes indeed. Dixie is five. Her birthday was a fun and full day. It started off with preschool graduation at the park. She and Summer (who was a late addition to the preschool gang- the mom's all let her join when Austin was born so I could have a break... THANK YOU MOMS!) received their graduation certificates, played with all their friends, and had a yummy celebration breakfast with muffins and fruit. It was a fun gathering.

Then we went home and took a little break in the house to cool off.
Next Dixie and Summer's good friends, Claire and Caleb, came over to swim and play. (We got the girls a little pool with a slide to keep cool-ish during the summertime. They LOVE playing in it! :)) They had a great time splish-splashin around.
Then when Daddy came home, we had a yummy spaghetti and meatball dinner (per Dixie's request) and then Daddy took the girls down to Uncle Randy's house for a little bit of fishing, where Dixie caught a Tilapia that she was very proud of. :) {Side note: The power went out right when they were all heading out so they missed the majority of the outage, but Mommy and Austin got to sweat it out at home.} :)
And when they got back, we opened presents and had cake (just one from the store... although Dixie seems to think I slaved away making it. Shhh! :)) and ice cream. De-lish!!
Dixie scored some great gifts this year... a talking Dora doll from our neighbors Mark and Peggy; some glow-in-the-dark chalk, coloring book, and crayons from good friends the VanOrdens; a Tinkerbell music/jewelry box with a silver heart necklace from Grandma and Grandpa; a Tinkerbell backpack and purple polkadot jammies from Gree-Gree and PawPaw; and a Barbie guitar and a cool 'big girl' bike (no training wheels!!) from Mommy and Daddy. Wowsers!
Dixie Jean... you are such a loved little BIG girl! You're growing up so quickly and you make us so proud with how sweet you are and how willing you are to help others and be of service.  We couldn't be happier to have you as a part of our family and we love you SO SO MUCH! Happy Birthday!! :)
