So, we've been having a crash course in anatomy since Austin entered our lives. Obviously, there's the differences between boys and girls that have to be explained, but then there's also the different parts of the female body that have piqued the girls interest and what they're used for. Clearly this has come as a result of them watching me nurse Little Man. So I've been doing my best to explain these things accurately, but in a way that won't be incredibly embarrassing should they be blurted out in the middle of a public setting. :)
Anyway, Dixie (our little sponge of knowledge) has soaked it all in and it has spurned some funny snippets of conversation every now and then. Here's some I can recall from these past two months...
After discussing about how we wait until after we're married to have babies, Dixie asks, "Mommy, when I come home from getting married will I have a baby in my tummy?"
On one occasion, I was getting ready to feed Austin. Summer ran into his nursery and sat in the chair and pulled her shirt up like she was ready to nurse him. I told her that only Mommy can feed Austin because I have the milk in my chest. Summer then informed me that she had milk in her chest too because she just went and drank some. :)
An additional funny side to this conversation came when Dixie then came into the room to explain to Summer the process through which your body knows when to make milk for a baby. She recited it just as it had been told to her. So funny to watch your 4 year old explain that to your 3 year old! :)
Frustrated that they can't feed Austin, and after I assure them that they will be able to feed their own babies, the girls often like to tell me, "Mom... when I have a baby, you don't get to feed him." Yes, my sweeties... that will be all you! :)
And here's one from back in September 2011...
Dixie stated matter-of-factly, "Mom, I'm using my brain to love you." :)
